Description: This Chinese New Year marked a new beginning for a group of 3 month old pandas as they met the public for the very first time at the Panda Research Base in Chengdu, Sichuan. Tourists from all over China and from abroad clamor to get a glimpse of the adorable baby pandas as the youngsters clumsily climb trees, fall over and captivate onlookers with their cuteness. Meanwhile, the base’s Giant Pandas don’t know what all the fuss is about as they look on whilst eating bamboo, and the much smaller Red Pandas run about amongst the feet of the many tourists as they realize that lunchtime as arrived.

Description: A huge crowd of people throngs in and out of Jinli Ancient Street as they attend Chengdu’s most popular temple fair during the Spring Festival period. The traditional red lanterns most commonly seen during the New Year period are present but are joined by an array of colors, as row upon row of multicolored lanterns illuminate the pathways down which people slowly push past one another as they work their way towards the food sellers, in order to taste Sichuan’s local cuisine. But for real authenticity, tourists and locals alike eat spicy Sichuan hotpot, accompanied by symbols of good fortune, such as the character ‘fu’, meaning luck, which is often turned upside down so as to symbolize increased fortune for the year ahead.
