Rowe planned to start a chain of “dream” grocery stores called Rowe’s IGA Markets. Rowe converted six of these former Albertsons into Rowe’s IGA Markets, but in two years there was only one left. This was one of the four stores Rowe sold to Publix in 2007. According to Rowe, the stores he sold off were actually doing well and he didn’t want to turn down the fantastic offers given to him to sell the stores. Store 4305 was torn down in 2009 for a new Publix, which relocated from an older store across the street. |

The man behind this did literally everything he could to keep this store from ever opening by appealing appeals and going all the way to the federal government to stop construction. After two years of bickering, legal battles and appeals, Albertsons was finally allowed to resume construction in May 1977. Then another lawsuit was filed to stop the construction of this store by the owners of the neighboring property later in 1977, saying the new store would attract too many outsiders and increase traffic. Construction was halted again in late 1977, but this case was dropped soon after and construction resumed again. This store finally opened in 1978. Was one of 49 stores sold to Publix in 2008. |

Home Depot moved to a new store next door sometime in the 1990's. After Home Depot closed the building was turned into the Westland Commons shopping center. The Albertsons was built where a part of the original Treasury store was torn down. The Albertsons closed very shortly after, but not mentioned in the article about Albertsons pulling out of the Miami region in November 2001, so it probably closed before then, making it one of the shortest lived Florida Albertsons. That was torn down for a Service Merchandise, which was then torn down for the Albertsons/Douglas Grand. This Albertsons would have been a small store (44,000 sqft, compared to the typical approx. 60,000 sqft. stores) on the ground floor of the Douglas Grand Condominium complex. When Albertsons pulled out of Miami, they sold this property, along with store #4435, to Publix (Construction may have started when Albertsons was still in control, but I'm not completely sure). After aquiring the property, Publix opened in 2003 as the supermarket tenant for the Douglas Grand Condominium complex (The small size is more suitable for Publix anyway). It's a very unique design the way it's integrated into the condo complex. |

As 2004 crept on, Albertsons began to realize they were losing the supermarket game in Florida and they put the plans for this store on indefinate hold in mid-2004, just to scrap them soon after. The Piggly Wiggly site sat vacant until 2013, when it became a Pic N Sav Food Outlet. The outparcel set aside for the Albertsons Express has since become a Walgreens. |

Local residents in the condominium complex adjacent to the site did not want an large 24 hour supermarket next to them, citing traffic concerns, so they protested to the zoning board. The board then rejected Albertsons plans, so Albertsons forfeited the bid. Albertsons later opened thier first Sarasota store in 1988 in the Landings Shopping Center, developed by the same company who later bought this proposed Albertsons site to build a small neighborhood shopping complex. |

One city comissioner then began to pressure the owner of the land to sell the lot to the county to preserve its natural significance and turn it into a park. The owner finally gave in and sold the land to the county for use as a park, formally scrapping all plans for this Albertsons. This site became Urfer Family Park in 2008. |
