The park's boat ramp will be closed beginning March 5, 2019, for construction of ramp improvements (leveling, larger dock, improved ADA access). You can still launch kayaks, canoes and small motorized boats that can be hand-carried into the water from the bank in the park. Contact the park for more info on boat launch alternatives.

Aug. 5, 2019 - Portions of West Texas (including Devils River State Natural Area) are currently experiencing a natural Anthrax outbreak. It's very rare for people to contract this disease in North America. However, you should still be cautious.

If you visit the Natural Area, do not touch dead wildlife and immediately report carcasses to park staff. Also, be sure to wear plenty of insect repellent, as deer flies transmit this infectious disease.

Beginning Monday, Oct. 7, 2019, large portions of the island Bayfront area will be closed to public access, due to park construction and repairs. These closures are expected to last several months. Nov. 9, 2019 - The Shady Ridge, Eagle Ford and Lakeview camping areas (campsites 1-230) are open but with no water or restrooms available, due to a ruptured water main. The park anticipates those areas will be without water through at least this weekend. Restrooms are available for use by all campers in the other camping areas.

Trail access depends on weather and trail repairs. The Marina is permanently closed and bait isn't for sale in the park.

Invasive Ants
|
||
Argentine ants, an invasive species, are in this park. While they can impact native wildlife and be a nuisance to park visitors, they do not bite or sting.
|
||
|
||
|
||
|
||
TPWD is working to reduce the ants without harming natural resources. State Parks policy allows you to treat camping gear and equipment with over-the-counter chemicals, according to label. You cannot apply pesticides to park property. Before leaving, thoroughly inspect your vehicle, RV, camping gear, and other equipment, and notify staff if you find ants.

The park will be closed for a special event on Saturday, Dec. 14. Only those participating in the event or with reservations made before Oct. 4 will be able to enter.

Capacity Closures

||
We have a very high volume of visitors on most good-weather weekends and holidays. We close for up to four hours when parking lots are full. People with camping reservations will be able to enter during these closures.

||

Purchase “Save the Day” passes to guarantee entry using the new state parks reservation system. If you come without a pass, please arrive early and have a back-up plan.
