Blagojevich was later convicted on corruption charges, including trying to sell the Senate seat for personal gain. Sen. Burris offered several different explanations under oath about how he came to be appointed to the Senate. The Senate Ethics Committee investigated and issued a letter of qualified admonition, finding Sen. Burris actions and statements reflected unfavorably on the Senate, as he should have been aware he was providing “incorrect, inconsistent, misleading, or incomplete” information to investigators and the public. The Illinois State Attorney of Sangamon County conducted an investigation but found insufficient evidence to charge the senator with perjury. He did not run in a 2010 special election

Sen. Craig did not run for re-election. In June 2012, the FEC sued Sen. Craig for misuse of campaign funds, requesting more than $217,000 in fines and legal fees. In March 2013, a federal judge rejected Sen. Craigs motion to dismiss the lawsuit, which is still ongoing. After leaving office, Sen. Craig founded consulting firm New West Strategies, which has offices in Idaho and Washington.

Cunningham resigned from the House of Representatives on November 28, 2005, after pleading guilty to accepting at least $2.4 million in bribes and underreporting his income for 2004. He was sentenced to eight years and four months in prison and ordered to pay $1.8 million in restitution.

On June 4, 2013, Rep. Cunningham was released after serving most of his sentence at a minimum security prison in Arizona. He served more than seven years of his sentence, which was reduced by approximately a year for good behavior. He will be on probation for three years.

Then-Rep. Deals ethics issues stemmed from his abuse of his position for his personal financial benefit. He resigned from the House on March 21, 2010 and successfully ran for governor of Georgia. After he left Congress, the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) released a report concluding he had violated House ethics rules by using congressional resources to influence Georgia state officials for his financial benefit. Gov. Deal was under investigation by the state ethics commission and the Department of Justice (DOJ). In July 2012, Gov. Deal agreed to pay $3,350 in administrative fees for a series of “technical defects” in his disclosure forms, and the state ethics commission dismissed the remainder of the charges against him.

Under pressure from the Republican leadership, Rep. Doolittle did not run for re-election in 2008. In June 2010, the DOJ closed its investigation without filing charges. Rep. Doolittle is currently a registered lobbyist.

Sen. Ensigns ethics issues stemmed from an extramarital affair with a former campaign staffer. Sen. Ensign resigned from the Senate on May 3, 2011, one day before the Senate Ethics Committee was scheduled to depose him as part of its investigation into his misconduct. The ethics committee released its report after his resignation, and found “substantial credible evidence” that Sen. Ensign broke federal laws and Senate rules in trying to cover up his affair with a former staffer. The committee was confident that the evidence against Sen. Ensign would have warranted expulsion if the case had proceeded. The ethics committee forwarded evidence to the DOJ and FEC for further investigation. In June 2012 ex-Ensign aide Douglas Hampton pleaded guilty to a charge of illegal lobbying.

In 2011, he became the president and CEO of Associated Industries of Florida, a trade group that lobbies on behalf of Florida business interests. Rep. Feeney is also an of counsel senior partner at Fowler, OQuinn, Sweeney &amp; Sneed and was a visiting fellow at the Heritage Foundation from 2009 to 2011.

Sweeney began hosting a radio show on Talk 1300 AM in Albany, but the show ended two weeks later due to schedule conflicts with his legal and consulting business.

Waters but issued a letter of reproval to Mikael Moore, Rep. Waters chief of staff and grandson, stating his actions on behalf of the bank represented a conflict of interest. Rep.
